Do It Yourself
Projects
-
easyclosets.com - the easiest software I found
to help you design your own closet space. I have
built my own using this site for templates but
people who have purchased from them have been very
happy.
-
doityourself.com - this has a great library of
projects. It is also easy to negotiate. You won’t
spend hours looking for the answer you need.
- bejane.com -
one of my favorites. If you are trying to tile your
bathroom, change a faucet or something else you
probably haven’t seen anyone attempt then look up
their animated videos. There’s something about
seeing a project done in 3D that is really helpful.
-
christopherlowell.com - he specializes in do it
yourself projects that cost minimal dollars and look
very rich. If you are looking for a particular
project, like a four poster bed, then search that
term and he will give you three or four options to
create. These are under “DEMOS” on the home page.
-
rd.com/family handyman - This is the official
family handyman website. It’s a great magazine and
they have a load of articles that have very clear
step by step processes.
- ehow.com -
save this for more obscure problems. It is good for
a quick browse before any project. They deal with a
wider array of issues but with smaller amounts of
content.
Design Advice
You may notice on this list I did not include HGTV or
Discovery’s Design channel. I find they have too many
topics with no real meat behind them.
-
interiordezine.com - this is chock full of
tutorials, design advice, pictures. And it’s still
easy to negotiate. Just go past the ads in the
middle and look on the left or right for your area
of interest.
-
christopherlowell.com - his book “Seven Layers
of Design” is a classic. Also, the DEMO’s section
gives lots of great pictures and ideas.
-
Interiordec.about.com - look for the resource
list on the left hand side of the page. They pull
the best design articles from books, magazines and
websites and compile them here.
